Iraq British Occupation 1932 New Currency 25f on 4a violet, SG114c.
Horizontal pair from foot of sheet with large part Bradbury Wilkinson imprint, showing varieties 'Flis' for 'Fils' (R10/8) and 'Inverted Arabic 5' (R10/7) SE-TENANT.
Mint example with original gum. Some minor toning on perforations which does not detract in any way from what is a splendid quality and very rare positional piece.
Issued as part of the 1932 New Currency provisional surcharges following the replacement of the Indian rupee by the new Iraqi dinar and fils currency. Existing stamp stocks were overprinted with new values pending the production of permanent definitives, and the hurried surcharge process gave rise to a number of celebrated constant printing varieties.
The combination of the 'Flis' for 'Fils' and 'Inverted Arabic 5' varieties in a single imprint pair represents one of the key positional pieces of the issue and is seldom encountered intact.
The Stanley Gibbons catalogue value is £2,750.
