Great Britain 1890 10s Ultramarine (I.R. Official), SGO10 – Used
A striking and rare high-value Victorian official.
A very fine used example of the 10 shillings ultramarine, overprinted “I.R. OFFICIAL”, lettered 'LG'. It is beautifully cancelled by a crisp Account Branch / P.O. Glasgow datestamp dated 'JY 25 94'.
These Inland Revenue stamps were used solely by revenue officials in the provinces. Mail to and from Head Office passed without a stamp. The London Office used these stamps only for foreign mail.
One of the most desirable of all the Victorian government official overprints, especially in such clean and well-centred condition.
