Great Britain 1966 3d Christmas "Children's Paintings, King of the Orient" (Phosphor) imprimatur, SG713pvar.
A superb unmounted mint, with full original gum, left hand corner marginal “Traffic light" horizontal strip of three imperforate imprimaturs, each stamped with a "BPMA" handstamp on reverse.
A unique piece from the first approved printing sheet.
Exceptional provenance as they were released from the British Postal Museum Archives in 2014. Prior to this they were stored in the museum archives in climate controlled vaults since being printed and are therefore in uncirculated mint condition.
Stanley Gibbons retail value: £7,000.
These were one of the two issues representing Britain's first Christmas stamps.
The designs for the first Christmas stamps from Great Britain came from a school competition. Eight professional stamp designers judged the 5,000 entries received. The prize was awarded to Tasveer Shemza and James Berry, both aged six. Shemza's design features King Wenceslas, while Berry's shows a snowman.
