Great Britain 1912 7d Trial of Eve's Wreath Design (22mm), SG387var
A very fine and rare proof of the unadopted “Eve’s Wreath” design from 1912, featuring the small coinage head of King George V (measuring 10.5mm) surrounded by a detailed laurel and oak wreath motif.
Printed in bright yellow green (lime) by Miller & Motley using their Printex machine. Fig.30a. The proof is rendered on thick white gummed, unwatermarked paper, and shows a clean background of solid colour, distinctive of this experimental printing.
This striking design was never issued, and is highly desirable for its visual uniqueness and historical significance in the development of early George V issues.
Stanley Gibbons catalogue value: £1,850.
