Great Britain 1880 2s brown, Plate 1, SG121.
A very fine used example of this rare Queen Victoria surface printed stamp lettered 'JC', neatly cancelled by two crisp part strikes of a Liverpool squared circle leaving the Queen’s portrait largely unobstructed and the design well preserved.
Lovely fresh colour and very scarce .
This high-denomination stamp was printed by De La Rue and intended primarily for heavy overseas parcels and accounting purposes. As such, usage was limited, and genuine fine used examples are scarce, especially with fresh colour and light, well-positioned cancellations.
