Great Britain 1867 1s green Plate 4 (Dr. Perkins Blued Paper), SG117var.
A very fine unused left-hand wing margin imperforate example, with original gum, lettered 'SE', printed on Dr. Perkins Blued Security Paper.
A scarce imperforate printing variety, desirable with the left-hand wing margin and particularly notable for being printed on Dr. Perkins Blued Security Paper, a rarely seen experimental paper type used briefly during this period.
Dr. Perkins’ Blued Security Paper was developed in an effort to combat stamp reuse and forgery. The bluish tinge, visible particularly from the reverse or in natural light, resulted from a chemical process intended to enhance paper security. Its use was quickly discontinued, making surviving examples extremely scarce—especially unused examples with gum.
Provenance: Ex."Verus", one of the most respected collections ever assembled.
