A very high grade example of this rare date George III Half Guinea, which are seldom seen on the market, especially in this high grade.
These coins were issued early in King George III's reign and due to their lower denomination were regularly used in day-to-day transactions. As a result, they were heavily used and finding examples in this condition is extremely rare. Furthermore, many were melted down.
George III was born on 4th June 1738. He married Charlotte of Mecklenburg and they had nine sons and six daughters. George III reigned during a pivotal period in history with the French Revolution and the American War of Independence taking place during that time. The naval battle of Trafalgar and the Battle of Waterloo also both took place during his reign.
His long reign was the longest yet at the time for any King.
