A very fine and scarce 1 shilling die proof, printed in crisp black on white glazed card measuring 92 x 60mm. Clearly endorsed "BEFORE HARDENING" and handstamped with the archival date "15 AUG 83". This piece represents an important stage in the development of the iconic surface-printed designs of the Victorian era.
Such die proofs were produced prior to final hardening of the printing plate and are seldom available on the market. A wonderful piece of philatelic history ideal for the advanced collector of Great Britain classics or essays and proofs.
