Summary
Our small but fast-growing company needs a passionate journalist who is willing to work hard, learn new skills and grow with the Company. The Online Journalist will be responsible for producing and managing a daily email newsletter covering the collectibles market, writing news content about collecting, and undertaking appropriate research. This role combines editorial expertise, data-driven topic selection, and advanced use of AI tools to deliver timely news and insights across high-interest collecting categories.
The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and a natural flair for writing, and will identify trending topics, write engaging short-form journalism, and help grow a large, loyal database of regular readers through audience-focused content, smart distribution strategies, and continuous optimisation. An enquiring mind and lively interest in collectors, collections and collecting stories is also important to the role.
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Daily Editorial Production
- Research, write, and publish a daily email newsletter focused on collectibles news, trends, auctions, and market insights, written in the "house style"
- Monitor and report on high-traffic collecting categories such as trading cards, coins, comics, toys, memorabilia, watches, and emerging collectibles
- Source stories from auctions, marketplaces, collectors, industry announcements, and social media
- Ensure strong use of images and captions to accompany copy within the rules of libel and copyright
AI-Enhanced Journalism
- Use AI tools to assist with research, topic discovery, data analysis, summarisation, and content optimisation
- Integrate AI workflows to improve editorial efficiency while maintaining strong journalistic standards
- Identify trending topics and keywords using AI-driven analytics tools
Audience Growth
- Help grow a large subscriber database of collectors and enthusiasts, building a community of engaged readers
- Optimise subject lines, headlines, and content structure for high open and click-through rates
- Collaborate on strategies to acquire new readers through SEO, partnerships, and social media distribution
- Become an ambassador for the Company in building our brand reputation and recognition in line with our values and beliefs
Data & Trend Analysis
- Track audience metrics including open rates, engagement, and subscriber growth
- Analyse which collectibles categories drive the most traffic and adjust editorial coverage accordingly
- Monitor industry data and marketplace trends to identify stories with strong reader interest
Industry Coverage
- Build sources across the collectibles ecosystem including auction houses, dealers, grading companies, marketplaces, and collector communities
- Cover breaking news, record sales, emerging trends, and expert insights
- Keep up to date with trends, developments and key topics in the collecting world
Job Requirements
- Ability to write engaging copy, accurately and fast, with the ability to produce clear, engaging daily news content
- The ability to absorb information quickly and write it up in a style which is interesting and easy to read, creating a distinctive "voice" and opinion
- Proven experience in digital journalism, newsletters, or online publishing
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools for research, content development, and editorial workflows
- Strong interest or background in collectibles markets (e.g., trading cards, coins, comics, toys, memorabilia, watches)
- Experience with newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Beehiiv, Substack, or similar)
- Understanding of SEO, headline optimisation, and audience growth strategies
- Research skills and an enquiring mind
- Determination and persistence with a motivation to succeed
- Proficient with Microsoft applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- High productivity and a good work ethic
- Ability to come up with innovative ideas and not being afraid to express them
- Ability to work quickly and independently in a daily publishing environment
Desirable Skills
- Experience covering auctions, collectibles, or hobby markets
- Familiarity with analytics tools (Google Analytics, newsletter metrics, audience dashboards)
- Knowledge of online marketplaces and price tracking tools
- Experience building or managing subscriber databases or communities
