We're heading down under to shine a spotlight on Australia.

It's consistently one of our top-selling countries, and I've always felt Australian stamps are undervalued compared to other Commonwealth nations.

They give you a wealth of fascinating designs and variations to collect, rich in history and symbolism spanning 175 years.

And Australian stamps also offer you superb value for money.

Major rarities in the finest condition can still be acquired for relatively low prices, which gives you a real chance of building a world-class collection.

And it seems the market is now starting to recognise their true value, which certainly gives them potential for future growth.

Here are some of the highlights from our current catalogue - all of which are available to purchase now.

Early Australian States stamps

The 2025 British Commonwealth & Empire catalogue specifically mentions Australian States stamps as showing some of the strongest growth in any category.

These predominantly 19th century stamps were issued by the six self-governing colonies before they joined to form the Commonwealth of Australia.

Today these rarities are much sought-after by collectors, and this demand is reflected in their growing value.

The 'Kangaroo & Map' - Australia's first postage stamp

The Commonwealth of Australia was formed in 1901, but it took another 12 years for the new nation to produce its first official postage stamp.

The classic 'Kangaroo and Map', issued from 1901 until 1948.

It was controversial upon its release, but has since become a much-loved cornerstone of Australian and British Commonwealth collections.

Australia 1931-36 £1 grey "The Kangaroo and Map", SG137

This 1931-36 £1 grey interpane horizontal pair is a magnificent example of this philatelic icon.

It's a perfect unmounted mint pair with no condition flaws, superb symmetry, good margins, and the beautifully centred John Ash imprint.

It's one of the finest positional pieces from the Kangaroo and Map series I've ever offered.

Australia 1932 5s blue-green 'Sydney Harbour Bridge'. One of Australia’s most popular stamp designs, issued on 14 March 1932 commemorating the opening of the iconic landmark.

Australia's first decimal stamp: A spectacular modern error block

In 1966 Australia switched to decimal currency, and a new set of definitive stamps was produced to match.

Then following a rise in postal rates in September 1967, a new blue 5c stamp featuring the Queen's portrait was issued.

More than 1.6 billion stamps were printed. But a mistake at the Note Printing Branch also accidentally created this highly rare modern error.

Australia 1966-73 deep blue error, SG386cb

Just two sheets featuring this imperforate error survived. And this upper left corner block of six was taken from one of them.

It's a stunning show piece in unmounted mint condition, with fresh colours and full original gum. And in recent years it has doubled in value.
