It was Saturday May 19, 1962 when Marilyn Monroe famously sang Happy Birthday Mr President to John F Kennedy during his 45th birthday celebrations at Madison Square Gardens.
Earlier that day Marilyn visited her hairdresser Robert Freeman Champion at Bergdorf Goodman on New York's Fifth Avenue. This Marilyn Monroe strand comes from that cut.
Mr Champion then accompanied Marilyn backstage at the event in the evening where he refreshed her lip colour, and powdered her nose, before she walked on stage.
