A very fine used example sent from Andover to Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, cancelled by a crisp black Maltes Cross with London tombstone and Ship Letter datestamps alongside for 'MY.6.1840'.
Backstamped with an Andover Skeleton datestamp for the previous day.
Side flaps removed and almost certainty used as a newspaper wrapper, hence the lack of any rate markings.
A very attractive and rare overseas usage on the first day of issue. One of only three known examples sent to the Cape of Good Hope.

Accompanied with a 1998 British Philatelic Association (BPA) Certificate of Authenticity.
