Great Britain 1961 2½d–1s6d Post Office Savings Bank Centenary, SG623/5A var – Imperforate Imprimatur Set
A very fine unmounted mint set of three imperforate imprimaturs, issued to mark the centenary of the Post Office Savings Bank (1861–1961). Each stamp bears the official "NPM IMPRIMATUR" handstamp on the reverse, indicating origin from the National Postal Museum archive.
The set includes:
-
2½d (red) featuring Queen Elizabeth II and stylised thrift plant
-
3d (purple) showing a squirrel amid a savings tree motif
-
1s6d (blue and red) with a modern floral design and formal portrait of the Queen
Designed by Patricia Gauld and Mary Goaman, these stamps are known for their bold mid-century aesthetic and symbolic celebration of thrift and national savings.
Imperforate imprimaturs were not released to the public and survive in very limited numbers, particularly as complete sets in pristine condition.
A scarce and visually striking QEII commemorative item for the advanced collector of British archives, trials, and exhibition-quality commemoratives.
