Canada 1991 (error discovered in 1994) $2 Provincial Normal School, Truro (perforations 13½ x 13) , SG1480ab – Dark Turquoise-Blue Omitted
A rare and striking modern Canadian error with strong visual contrast.
A Post Office fresh unmounted mint marginal example, showing the error of dark turquoise-blue omitted. This major colour omission results in the loss of "CANADA $2" and significantly alters the appearance of the building’s roof and architectural details.
Only one pane of 25 has been reported, making this a notably scarce QEII printing error.
Offered with a normal example for comparison and display purposes.
Listed as Pierron CA2961MCa and Unitrade 1376d (catalogue value: $2,000), and considered currently underpriced. Past auction realisations and dealer prices often exceed $2,000, especially for marginal or well-centered examples
An exceptional value, highly desirable and scarce Canadian stamp error.
The third in the series of splendid examples of Canadian architectural styles, featured on high-value definitive stamps, illustrating the Provincial Normal School in Truro, Nova Scotia. Officially opened on November 6, 1878 the Normal School Building is a sophisticated example of the Second Empire style of architecture, combining an elaborate composition of patterned brick walls surmounted by a distinctive mansard roof, the "height of fashion" when it was built.
