An original drawing from the hand of surreal genius Salvador Dali.
An original Salvador Dali sketch of an angel on horseback.
Signed three times by Dali, and depicting significant themes from his artistic career.
A superb original Salvador Dali sketch of an angelic figure with wings riding a horse.
Drawn in black ballpoint pen on white paper or board, and housed in its original black wooden frame measuring 6.5 in x 7.75 inches.
Dated circa 1965. In very good condition.
Dali has sign the sketch on the lower left corner.
In the lower right-hand corner Dali also adds a more stylistic form of his signature which includes the name of his wife Gala. Dali began signing his artworks using his wife's name in the 1930s, as a tribute to the creative inspiration she gave him.
On the reverse of the frame, on the original backing paper, Dali has provided his own handwritten authentication. He writes:
"C'est vraiment de Dali ("It is Truly Dali") and dates it "1965".
The imagery of both angels and horses can be found in many of Dali's artworks.
The present artwork is also highly similar to Dali's several famous depictions of St George slaying the dragon. There are very direct similarities between this drawing and the composition of many of his St George portraits, most notably 'Saint Georges et le dragon' (1962).
