Paul McCartney signed autograph page with lock of hair
An autograph album page signed by Paul McCartney in the mid-1960s, with a lock of his dark brown hair attached.
Signed in black ballpoint pen during the height of Beatlemania. The signature style indicates 1964 onwards.
The hair was cut by a fan outside the BBC's Paris Theatre, Regent Street, London in 1965 or 1966, following a Saturday Club radio recording. The lock has remained attached to the autograph page since that day.
Both signature and hair date from the Beatles' most creative period - the era of Help!, Rubber Soul, and Revolver.
Paul McCartney hair from the 1960s is exceptionally rare.
A substantial and museum-worthy piece. In very good condition considering its age.
Off-white album page 11cm x 7cm. Signature measures 7cm long. Hair strands vary from 4cm to 5cm, secured under plastic tape.
Provenance
The autograph and hair were obtained in-person by the original vendor at the BBC's Paris Theatre, Regent Street, on separate occasions.
She attended regular Saturday Club radio recordings with complimentary tickets obtained through her father, who worked at Leadenhall Market. She and a school friend cut McCartney's hair as he left the studio through a crowd of fans.
The page has been preserved in her childhood autograph book for six decades. The vendor's friend wrote to McCartney's fan club to apologise for cutting his hair.
The page shows remnants of old tape, with a small portion touching the signature. Includes paper copy of the vendor's written account.
