A rare piece of stone tablet from the beloved Paris cathedral
A stone tablet from the Cathedral of Notre Dame with crosses carved into each corner and the centre of the slab. It measures 5” by 7.5” by 0.25”.
To the front is affixed an elliptically shaped paper seal of the Archbishop of Paris.
To the rear is fixed a tag stamped with the seal of the Archbishopric of Paris, reading, in part [translated]: "I…certify that this Stone Altar…consecrated to the Archbishopric of Paris," and dated Paris, April 9, 1930.
Signed at the conclusion by the Secretary of the Archbishopric to certify the statement. In very good condition, with a few edge chips and moderate wear to affixed seal and tag.
Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is one of the most important religious and cultural sites in Europe. It is part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered one of the masterpieces of French Gothic architecture.
It was built between 1163 and 1260 and has played a central role in French life as the Cathedral of Paris. Napoleon restored the Cathedral to Christianity after its deconsecration during the French Revolution and staged his spectacular coronation as Emperor there.
When the Cathedral was badly damaged by fire in 2019 there was a world-wide effort to support its restoration.
This is an extraordinary opportunity to own a fragment of a building of world-historic importance.
