A large collection of papers and photographs from the collection of Admiral of the Fleet The Lord Lewin relating to the funeral of Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma, on Wednesday, September 5, 1979.

- Printed address given by the then Admiral Sir Terence Lewin at the Memorial Service at Romsey Abbey
- Ceremonial for the funeral and printed timing schedule for the Chiefs of Staff
There are also rare photographs of the naval rehearsal at Whale Island, Portsmouth; photographs of the actual ceremony, and the unveiling of the statue of Lord Mountbatten on Foreign Office Green by the Queen, on November 2, 1983 with Order of Ceremony and Mansion House reception ticket.
Earl Mountbatten was murdered by the Provisional IRA (along with three others) on August 27, 1979.
He was the great grandson of Queen Victoria, the uncle of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, and a second cousin of George VI, Queen Elizabeth II’s father.
He was a career naval officer, who served in both World War I and World War II. He was a major player in British and British Imperial politics, serving as the last Viceroy of India, and was the first Governor-General of the Dominion of India.
Lord Lewin served alongside Prince Philip in World War II and became a lifelong friend of Queen Elizabeth II’s consort. He remained in the navy after the war, retiring from the Royal Navy to become Chief of Defence Staff in 1979, in which role he played a major role in the Falklands War.
