Hong Kong whisky connoisseurs are in for a treat, but it's going to cost HK$17,000.

They have the opportunity to own a bottle of one of the rarest Scotch whiskies in the world as Crown Wine Cellars have secured 88 bottles of 'The Last Drop'.

The Last Drop is a famous whisky distilled before 1960, and bottled by hand straight from the cask, with no chilling, filtering, dilution or colouring.

Last Drop distiller James Espey explains that the whisky is specially made in Auchentoshan, in the West of Scotland.

Espey knows his stuff, having been involved in the creation and development of brands including Johnnie Walker and Chivas Royal.

In fact the Last Drop, with only 1,347 bottles available worldwide comes in at almost double the price of a Johnnie Walker Blue Label King George V edition.

With 52% alcohol, it is a blend of 70 malt and 12 grain whiskies.

The process involves 12yrs storage in American Oak before being transferred to 1972 sherry casks, where it remained for 36 years.

Espey explains 'after all these years, it has picked up some of the character of the wood, not only in its taste but also in its warm bronze colour".

The Last Drop was named "Scotch Blended Whisky of the Year" in Jim Murray's 2009 Whisky Bible.

Final word to Mr Espey "Once you drink it, it's gone. That's why it is the most exclusive and unique whisky."
