Later today, auction house Artcurial will be holding (or concluding) a large sale of rare wines and spirits with the live auction held at Hôtel Marcel Dassault in Paris.
A full 685 lots are on offer based primarily on fine red wines, but also with an impressive range of high-quality Champagne and, as it is a French auction, a few exceptional bottles of Calvados.
Amongst the highlights of the sale is a bottle of 1856 Cognac from Otard Dupy & Co. The level in the bottle has dropped a little and the label is damaged, but it's still a fascinating piece and potentially worthy of an investment and listed at €2,500-3,000.

Also appearing are two bottles of Château D'Yquem 1959, Premier Cru. The level of this fabulous wine is at the bottom of the neck and the two are expected to achieve €2,000-2,200 and four bottles of Château Lafleur 1978 Pomerol (with horribly damaged labels) listed at €1840-2100.
The stand-out lots in the sale are easy to spot, however: two six bottle selections of Château Lafite 1982. The 1982 vintage of Lafite is exquisite - "[full of] breedy sweetness and ripeness, with alluring flavours of wild herbs" according to Sotheby's wine expert Serena Sutcliffe.
Lafite is also very popular in the Chinese market. Each of the six bottle lots is expected to receive bids of around €12,000-12,500 in Artcurial's sale which begins its live session at 2pm CEST with online bidding available.
