Message in a bottle: Acker announces more wine sales to match recent triumphs

Never quiet for long, Acker, Merrall and Condit is already planning another pair of fine wine auctions, and as strong as 2010 was, it seems that 2011 is already even stronger.

After the success of the January and February auctions, the auctioneer has sped ahead with two worthy successors both taking place in March. In these carefully assembled catalogues, you will find over 1600 lots with potentially US$10m worth available between Acker NY and Acker Asia live auctions.

As their last sale achieved $4.75m, including a case of 1982 Lafite Rothschild at $61,000, Acker are clearly intending business this year.

The first of their two new sales will kick off on March 19th. This is a small sale by Acker's usual standards, only 566 lots, but it is as high in quality as ever. It is also an important one for those at the company, one in which they are sharing a little of their history.

Many ads from Acker from the 19th and 20th Century are on display, as well as pictures of old Manhattan before it became the concrete jungle it is today. The ads include one for the then new 1878 Krug.

From being a nationwide chain before the Great Depression to having cargo on the Titanic, there is one thing that stayed the same; Acker has always sold excellent wines, from 1865 Clarets to 1929 La Chapelle to 1985 Dujac on release.
