Bonhams will offer the Macallan Six Pillars Collection in its Hong Kong whisky sale on August 18.
The set features six of the maker’s most sought after drams (the 50, 55, 57, 60, 62 and 65 year olds) housed in specially designed Lalique decanters.
The six decanters contain some of the best whisky on the planet
Lalique and Macallan have worked together on a series of projects since 2005. The combination of top of the line whisky in an elegant crystal bottle has proven irresistible to collectors, particularly those in China.
In 2010 a single bottle of Macallan 64 year old in a Lalique decanter made $464,000, a record for a single bottle of whisky at auction.
This lot is valued at up to $589,158, but that looks to be on the low side. In April this year Sotheby’s sold another Lalique Six Pillars set for $993,165 in Hong Kong.
That’s a record sum for a lot of whisky at auction.
It’s entirely possible that the present example will exceed that result.
Bonhams’ whisky specialist Daniel Lam said: "Individual bottles from The Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection are among the most sought after and highest performing whiskies at auction.
“This is a wonderful and rare opportunity for collectors to acquire such a desirable set in its entirety."
Japanese whisky will also feature, with a complete set of four Ichiro Hanyu Ace bottles expected to bring $19,211-24,334.
