The Mortlach Generations 70-year-old Gordon & MacPhail

Also from the Morlach distillery, this Generations 70-year-old Gordon & MacPhail bottling was distilled on October 15, 1938 and limited to just 54 70 cl bottles.

What's more, it is the oldest whisky ever to be bottled.

According to taster Charles Maclean, the 70-year-old - the "colour of sun" - boasts a mellow, once waxy and fruity nose and a surprisingly lively taste for its age, with an intriguing light smokiness.

Today, the Mortlach distillery is one of only a handful still using wooden worm tub condensers to cool their spirit - and this 70-year-old remains a truly remarkable, rare and collectible example.

It is presently for sale on the market priced £10,000.
