Acker's Burgundy HK wine auction offers 1995 DRC

Burgundy lovers are in for a treat at Acker Asia's Hong Kong sale on January 17-18. The Asian arm of Acker, Merrall and Condit is offering the "As Good As It Gets" Collection as part of the auction, formed of more than 50,000 bottles, mostly top of the range Burgundies.

The collection, all stored at 70% humidity and 49F, contains, of course, plenty of Domaine de la Romanee-Conti (DRC), including a 12-bottle assortment from 1995 housed in its original wooden case. It has a high estimate of $35,000.

At the more inexpensive end is a lot from what Acker calls "Jadot's rarest and most prestigious vineyard, Musigny." Comprising six bottles each from the 2002 and 2003 vintages, it has a $5,000 high estimate.

Acker is also excited by "one of our largest ever Leroy collections in Hong Kong". It includes three bottles of 1995 Clos de la Roche, which each bottle estimated at $3,500.

While prices for leading Bordeaux continued to stagnate in 2013, values for Burgundy were on the up, with DRC rising 6.9% in the 11 months to the end of November.

Nevertheless, Bordeaux will still be realising the bulk of the big prices in Hong Kong.

The anticipated top lot from the two days of auctions is 12 bottles of Chateau Petrus 1982, which has a $75,000 high valuation.
