The world’s largest pink diamond, the Pink Star, has sold for a record $71.2m in Hong Kong today.
It beat the previous diamond record, set at $57.5m for the Oppenheimer Blue last year, by 21.7%.
At 59.6 carats the Pink Star is the biggest internally flawless fancy vivid pink diamond in the world. It was discovered in a De Beers owned mine in South Africa in 1999.
The new owner is Hong Kong conglomerate Chow Tai Fook Enterprises.
