Platinum Jaeger LeCoultre watch to make $220,000 in HK?

A magnificent platinum Jaeger LeCoultre wristwatch will lead bids in an upcoming Hong Kong sale on August 25.

Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso Gyrotourbillon 2
One of just 75 examples and the brand's most coveted watch

The Gyrotourbillon 2 is one of the most coveted watches produced by the luxury Swiss brand, having been heralded as the finest in its long-standing Reverso series. All of the watches in Jaeger LeCoultre's renowned line feature a unique reversible face function which helps guard against scratches and gives the series its name.

Valued with a high estimate of $220,000, the watch is set to provide the auction's top lot. Featuring a highly-desirable platinum casing, it is numbered 72 in a limited edition of 75 and boasts 373 parts and 58 jewels to keep its complex mechanisms moving.

Following this sale will be a stunning Patek Philippe ref 3941R, which features an 18k pink gold casing with a perpetual calendar, moon phases and an 18k pink gold buckle. Estimated at $45,000-60,000, the auction house hopes to make an increase on the $44,000 achieved by another ref 3941R in 2008.

In June, the Patek Philippe wristwatch made especially for legendary collector Henry Graves Jr beat its estimate by 273%, selling for $3m against an $800,000 high valuation at Sotheby's. The current world record for a Patek Philippe at auction stands at $5.6m, which was achieved by a unique example from 1944 at Christie's Geneva showroom in 2010.
