The first Patek Philippe Ref. 5073P to be offered for public sale has seen top bids in Sotheby's Important Watches auction, held on October 8 in Hong Kong.

The watch is similar to the top-selling Ref. 2074, yet is available only in platinum with a black baguette diamond-set dial. It sold for $747,794 - a 12.5% increase over high estimate.
The bezel and shoulders are set with 103 baguette diamonds, with a matching diamond set folding buckle that features a further 42 baguette diamonds.
Created in 2011, the watch boasts a minute repeater and cathedral gongs with Moon phases and leap year indication, as well as a perpetual calendar. With creating such a complicated watch in a platinum case both time consuming and labour intensive, very few examples of Ref. 5073P were made.

Also featuring was a striking clock watch from Patek Philippe, uniquely commissioned by one of its top customers, which sold for $670,436.
Featuring enamel portraits of the vendor's children by G Menni, one of the world's foremost enamel artists, the watch is an incredible display piece, providing a rare opportunity for collectors to own a unique Patek Philippe piece on the secondary market.

While the sale was dominated by Patek Philippe, a Greubel Forsey Tourbillon 24 Seconds Contemporain "Royal Blue" also appeared in the top lots, selling at $306,853.
The watch was created in 2012 to showcase the company's 24-second tourbillon, with a titanium movement and transparent sapphire tourbillon bridge placed to provide a 3D view of its workings.
