This week, saw a sale of fine jewellery and silver pieces at McTear's auction house in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Thursday evening auction offered up plenty of bargains for collectors and investors of fine jewellery, and it was the diamond pieces which ultimately dominated the show.

A diamond and opal necklace set in platinum was one such piece.
The piece was presented with a pendant section that featured three opal drops below diamonds in a bow setting.
This elegant collectible sold for £1,200.
Going one better, a brilliant cut diamond solitaire ring with an eighteen carat gold shank exceeded its £1,000 estimate, selling for an impressive £1,400.
Not to be outshone were a pair of diamond solitaire stud earrings. Featuring 1.5 carats and designed in unmarked gold, this collectible piece sold for £1,600 - 60% above the estimated price.
While, elsewhere, a pair of diamond cluster earrings was the top jewellery lot of the sale.
Set in unmarked gold and featuring diamonds totalling 3.4 carts, this piece sold for £1,700.
Yet despite these impressive figures, the top lot of the sale was ultimately that of the collection of rare medals awarded to Squadron Leader P.I Briggs.

The lot featured the 1939-45 distinguished flying medal, the France and Germany Star, a war medal and an Air efficiency medal.
They were sold along with ribbons and associated newspaper clippings for a price of £1,800, making them the top lot at Thursday's auction.
The results of the sale highlighted both the continuing popularity of diamond based jewellery collections, but also the rising value of war medals and militaria.
And the next few months could see even more impressive auction prices.
