On August 3, French auctioneer Tajan held a highly impressive auction of fine watches with around 250 high quality timepieces going under the hammer.
Despite all the competition, there was one runaway top lot: a 2008 tourbillion Jaeger LeCoultre Reverso watch produced in 2008 with a limited edition of just 75.
The front dial has Clous de Paris decorations (that is, the metal parts are characterised by many small pyramids) and displays hours and minutes on a dial with skeleton-centre blue steel hands.
It specifies a second time zone in 24 hour time on the left of the dial. At the bottom, the small seconds are shown on the outer edge of the spherical tourbillon.
On the reverse, sapphire crystals reveal the movement and the swirl in 3D. There is also an indication of the power reserve (up to 50 hours).

The timepiece has a mechanical movement and manual winding, based on Jaeger Le Coultre 174. The spherical tourbillon has two cylindrical rotating cages. Finally, a security lock blocks the opening of the case.
Held on a leather strap with a Jaeger LeCoultre folding clasp in white gold, it is truly a spectacular piece, and achieved €178,543 ($254,900).
Another highlight, albeit a rather different one, was a Rolex Comex Sea-Dweller Ref. 1665. In a limited edition of just 70, the diving steel wrist watch with a classic diving steel 'rail dial' inscribed 'Oyster Perpetual'.
Featuring the famous 'gas escape valve' (intended to gently ease pressure within the watch on deep dives), the lot beat its €35,000-50,000 estimate to sell for €51,525 ($73,600).
