Jaeger-LeCoultre auctions £12,600 mountaineering watch for charity

For the second year in a row, Jaeger-LeCoultre put up an exclusive timepiece for its online auction to raise funds for "Tides of Time".

This year, the chosen timepiece was a 1958 Geophysic Chronometer, E168 model, which scaled the summit of Mount Antoine LeCoultre on the wrists of renowned mountaineers.

Between March 18 and March 24, Jaeger-LeCoultre received nearly 50 bids from 18 countries. The winning bid was £12,600.

This collector will now have the pleasure of being the new owner of a remarkable timepiece steeped in history.

The entire proceeds from the auction will be donated to Sundarbans National Park, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1987.

In other Jaeger-LeCoultre news, the watchmaker has released a new iPhone and iPad application revealing the secrets behind making luxury timepieces.
