Jackie Kennedy Onassis gold bracelets make $162,500

A pair of 18k gold bracelets Jackie Kennedy Onassis gave to her step-sister Nina Straight achieved $162,500 at Heritage Auctions on September 26.

That's 306.2% higher than their $40,000 estimate.

The 18k gold bracelets are by Van Cleef & Arpels

They're made by Van Cleef & Arpels and weigh in at a hefty 180g.

Remarkably they sold for more than Jacqueline's own pair, which realised $128,500 at Sotheby's in 2011.

Straight told Heritage Auctions' Intelligent Collector Magazine: "They were a gift from Jackie for my wedding to Michael Straight in 1974.

"We were married at St. John's Cathedral in New York. Jackie gave them to me at the luncheon after the ceremony…

"Jackie loved hers so much that she bought me a pair knowing I would enjoy them equally.

"I always viewed myself as Jackie's 'Sancho Panza' or sidekick. We had so much fun. Ours was a very close relationship."

Jacqueline was eight years older than Nina when their parents moved in together, but they still got on like a house on fire.

Jacqueline said in an interview: "Nina was just a marvellous thing that came along with our new life of a stepfather and another family. We liked the same things—horses and books.

Each served as maid of honour at the other's wedding.

Nina even briefly dated John F Kennedy's brother Ted for a short time in the mid-1950s.
