A stunning diamond ring is definitely the star of the show in an upcoming auction by DuMouchelle.
The sale on Sunday December 12 will feature items from the Michigan estate of Joseph and Norina Simon, and in amongst the lots are several items of jewellery that look certain to attract attention from bidders.
The 10.7CT ring is of medium faint yellow colour, with a round brilliant cut. It is GIA certified, and has a quality grading of VS2 meaning it contains very slight inclusions. It has an estimated price of $90,000 - $120,000, but could see much higher due to its quality. Online bidding is also available, with a starting bid price of $45,000.

Also under the hammer will be a 4.45CT ring of VS1 quality, Gia certified with an estimate of $20,000 - $30,000 and an impressive 9.24CT natural Zambian emerald and diamond ring. The gem is mounted in 14kt gold with a diamond quality of VS2, and has an estimated price of $15,500 - $20,000.
The sale features a number of equally impressive but less expensive pieces, including beautifully set diamond necklaces and bracelets with estimates of $8,000 - $10,000, that could prove to be excellent (and more affordable) investments for jewellery collectors.

The jewellery market has had another record-breaking year with diamonds, as usual, stealing the show. They have proven yet again to be solid investments, with the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) reporting this earlier this month that silver and jewellery collectibles have risen on average by over 40% to nearly 60% over the third quarter of 2010 alone.
They may be amongst the more glamorous collectible assets, but diamonds can always be (quite literally) the jewel in the crown of any alternative investment portfolio.
