Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the most famous military and political leaders in history, abdicated 200 hundred years ago today, on June 22 1815.
It was the second time he had been forced to do so, after his defeat by the armies of the Seventh Coalition, an Anglo-Allied force led by the Duke of Wellington, in the Battle of Waterloo several days earlier.
Despite Napoleon's loss, he has been remembered by history as a talented general and leader, and is still someone who generates a lot of interest even today.
