Les Paul guitar and Eli Terry clock star in Connecticut rare antiques auction

This early 19th century Eli Terry pillar-and-scroll clock is going up for sale in Norfolk, Connecticut on February 17. Rare guitars autographed by some of rock 'n' roll history's greatest names will also appear for sale.

The pillar-and-scroll clock dates to the early 1800s. It comes from the workshop of Eli Terry (1772-1852). Terry is regarded by many as being Connecticut's most renowned clockmaker.

Needless to say, Terry's rare and historic clocks are especially sought-after by collectors.

Appearing alongside it are various autographed guitars. Among these is an Epiphone guitar autographed by legendary guitar innovator Les Paul himself.

Other big lots will include a Johnny Cash signed autograph.

Les Paul was in the news earlier this week when a guitar owned by his ex-wife was bought for $90,000 from her nephew, as shown on the TV show Pawn Stars.

The same guitar was then auctioned on eBay for $110,000 - an excellent return on the buyer's investment.

All proceeds from the Connecticut auction will benefit the local Norfolk Lion's Club, a non-profit organisation.

Meanwhile, Paul Fraser Collectibles has recently acquired guitars autographed by U2, the Rolling Stones and British rockers The Libertines.

These include a rare and unusual guitar for sale which has been autographed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Bill Wyman and Ronnie Wood in bold blue ink.
