The contents of the now defunct Durley House Hotel in London's Sloane Street, once a party haunt of Rolling Stone Mick Jagger, auctioned on January 26 with a 100% success rate. Hammer prices ranged from £1,150 ($1,806) for a leather porter's chair, to £350 ($550) for a set of wall sconces.

In its heyday, the hotel boasted 11 uniquely decorated rooms, reports This is Somerset, the contents of which sold during the one day sale in Frome.

Quintyn Howard-Evans, managing partner at the auction house presiding over the sale, commented: "We had a packed room made up of regular and first time auction buyers.

"All items were sold without guides and therefore my view is that the sale represented the current market.

"Following this sale, my tip is that now is the time to buy 'brown' furniture again.  

"This is a trend that is long overdue, the painted furniture market has peaked, vintage is too expensive and the quality of material and craftsmanship in mid to late Victorian pieces is becoming attractive to a new generation of purchasers."
