The 2011 World Championship ring given to baseball legend Stan Musial (1920-2013) has sold from a collection of his memorabilia at Heritage Auctions' November 7-9 Sports Collectible Catalog Auction.

The ring, given to Musial as the St Louis Cardinals secured their 11th World Series title, sold for $191,200, along with a letter of provenance from Musial's family.
Musial played his entire career for the St Louis Cardinals, and is considered one of the team's greatest ever players, as well as one of the best hitters in Major League Baseball.
With 475 home runs during his career, Musial was named the National League's Most Valuable Player three times and won three World Series titles, as well as sharing the MLB record for the most All-Star Games played, with Hank Aaron and Willie Mays.
Much of the auction was dedicated to Musial's memorabilia, with the 2006 World Championship ring given to him selling for $101,575.
![]() The letter offers exceptional insights, with Cobb touching on just about every major issue in baseball at the time |
A letter that Detroit Tigers legend Ty Cobb wrote to Musial, described as the greatest letter written from one ballplayer to another, sold for $71,700. A lengthy piece, it sees Cobb discussing batting averages, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio, slump busting and the evils of sports writing.
"Seriously now, I know well that you averaged in 6 of your last 7 years .355. Does that give you a right to be so darn modest," Cobb writes. "So go out there now and lead the league again and if you don't lead both Major Leagues this year, you should be shot in the behind with mustard seed."
The first day of sales at Heritage focused solely on trading cards, with the only known set of 1915 JH Dugan baseball cabinet cards bringing $143,400.
