An ultra-rare 1915 Cracker Jack Ty Cobb baseball card realised $432,000 at Heritage Auctions yesterday.
Ty Cobb still holds the top career batting average (.366)
Cobb (1886-1961) was one of the greatest batters of all time and remains a perennial favourite for collectors of early baseball cards.
While the 1915 Cracker Jack series is far from the rarest issue, it’s popular with collectors and specimens in the upper grades are scarce.
This lot is one of only three examples of this card to achieve Mint 9 status.
The auction house describes it as “one of the finest examples of one of the most desirable Cobb cards in the hobby.”
