Babe Ruth's last will and testament expected to beat $150,000

Ruth (1895-1948) signed the will in 1933, just two years before he played his final professional game. His funeral, in 1948, was attended by an estimated 75,000 people.

The document was consigned by Ruth's grandson, Tom Stevens, who acquired it during the 1970s.

He writes [sic]: "During the mid 1970's, during one of my regular visits, I found my grandmother in the process of cleaning out an old desk. I don't think she ever realized the importance of the items associated with my grandfather.

"Years after he passed away she many times would send canceled checks to fans that sent letters. As the stack of papers destined for the wastebasket grew, she asked me if there was anything I would like to have.

"My grandfather's signature on a piece of paper caught my eye. That document turned out to be the 1933 Last Will and Testament that you see here. I has been in my possession ever since that day."

The sale will also feature one of the earliest baseball contracts on the market.
