A trip to space accompanied by actor Leonardo DiCaprio was auctioned for charity at the 20th amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival last night (May 23).

The opportunity was snapped up by Russian-born millionaire Vasily Klyukin, who paid $1.5m for the privilege of flying on board Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic. The pioneering commercial space service hopes to make its first manned flight by the end of 2013.
Klyukin will have to spend three days in training with DiCaprio before leaving Earth, with the flight lasting just over two and a half hours. He now joins a waiting list that includes Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Stephen Hawking.
While reaching space may be unattainable for most of us, quality space memorabilia is not. PFC Auctions is currently selling a fantastic selection, including a signed photograph of Neil Armstrong, whose signature has shown a 26% increase in value between 2011 and 2012.
