Princess Diana’s wedding dress letters to sell

RR Auction will offer an archive of letters relating to the planning of Princess Diana’s 1981 wedding dress.

The sale will take place around the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death.

Diana wedding dress

Designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel created the iconic dress

All are written between designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel and the various vendors and makers involved in the making of the dress, shoes and flowers.

Diana’s wedding dress was almost a state secret in the run-up to the wedding, and the subject of frenzied speculation in the tabloids.

One letter, from silk weaver Stephen Walker & Son, reads: “We have been delighted to learn from the Times that you are to design the Wedding dress for Lady Diana Spencer.

“We expect for this very special occasion you will be considering real Silk, and would like to hope the fabric will be woven in this country.”

The archive also includes press releases and invoices.

It’s expected to make somewhere in excess of $2,000 ahead of the August 24 close date.

A number of pieces from the dress itself are also featured, most notably a sample of the crinoline tulle used in Diana's bridal veil that is valued at more than $1,000.

The main draw of the auction is an intimate set of correspondence between Diana and an old friend that is expected to make around $125,000.

We have a greetings card signed by Charles and Diana for sale.
