As we've reported, Spink of London is returning from the off-season with a solid sale of Great British rare stamps on September 20. But it's not the only sale they have planned for next week.
Swiftly following on is a two-day auction of fine stamps and covers of South-East Asia including the second part of the Stolz collection.
Two of the highlights are as follows: Firstly, a magnificent block of sixteen (4x4) 1 1/2c. on 1/2a. blue stamp from the lower left corner of the lower right pane with sheet margin at the foot and interpanneau margin at the left.
It is unused with a large part or full original gum. There is some splitting/re-enforcing, but nevertheless it is in a fine state of preservation. The second largest unused multiple known, it is a splendid exhibition item and expected to sell for S$20,000-25,000 (up to US$20,100).

The likely top lot of the sale is not this, however, but a set of Japanese Occupation Issues. These are a 1942 (Mar.) $25 purple and blue on blue, a $100 purple and red on blue and a $500 purple and orange, each handstamped with an Okugawa seal in red and cancelled by a "Dai Nippon/stamp office Penang" oval datestamp.
'Occupied' and 'Japan' combine to make a very popular search term among collectors as we noted earlier in the week, and this seems to apply to stamps too. An extremely rare set of high values, it's expected to sell for S$45,000-50,000 (US$40,200) in the auction which takes place in Singapore and online on September 24.
