A used New Zealand 1898-1908 pictorial issue 3d realised £4,500 ($5,855) in an auction of Kiwi stamps at Spink London on July 6.
|
The stamp formed part of the collection of the late professor Derek Diamond.
It's a rare specimen of this denomination from one of the nation's most popular series of stamps.
The issue was introduced when the plates used to print the previous issue (featuring a portrait of King George) wore down.
The public were invited to contribute designs - with the winning concepts appearing on stamps.
We have a complete set of the second edition (issued in 1935) for sale.
