Hedge fund manager and enduring hate figure Martin Shkreli is selling his unique copy of the Wu-Tang Clan’s Once Upon a Time in Shaolin on eBay.
Shkreli first came to mainstream attention after masterminding a takeover of a pharmaceutical company and raising the price of a crucial, proprietary AIDS drug by 5,000%.
Martin Shkreli is selling the record after an argument with Ghostface Killah
In 2015 he purchased the sole copy of the Wu-Tang record, presented in a jewelled box, for $2m.
However, once he learned who had purchased the CD, Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah engaged Shkreli in an extended online row – calling him “a real killer, a soft killer…you’re a baby”.
Ghostface also released a video of his mother and sister airing their grievances with Shkreli and offering to "put you over my knee”.
Shkreli’s statement on eBay reads: “I decided to purchase this album as a gift to the Wu-Tang Clan for their tremendous musical output.
“Instead I received scorn from at least one of their (least-intelligent) members, and the world at large failed to see my purpose of putting a serious value behind music...
“At any time I may cancel this sale and I may even break this album in frustration. I will donate half of the sale proceeds to medical research.”
Bidding on the lot stands at $1m ahead of the September 16 close date.
Whoever purchases it will want a clear conscience if they plan to avoid further beef with any of Wu-Tang’s nine surviving members (or their mothers).
