Bob Dylan's Hard Rain manuscript to make $315,000?

An early version of the lyrics to Bob Dylan's A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall is to cross the block at Sotheby's New York.

The lot is expected to make £150,000-200,000 ($236,367-315,163) on September 29.

Bob Dylan wrote A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall in 1962

Dylan famously wrote the song above the Gaslight Folk Club in Greenwich Village.

Folksinger Tom Paxton described its origin: "There was a hide-out room above The Gaslight where we could hang out.

"Once Dylan was banging out this long poem on Wavy Gravy's typewriter. He showed me the poem and I asked, 'Is this a song?'

"He said, 'No, it's a poem.' I said, 'All this work and you're not going to add a melody?"

It was first performed on September 22, 1962, at an event organised by Pete Seeger, but became an evocative anthem of its era.

Despite being recorded weeks before the events of the Cuban Missile Crisis, its apocalyptic imagery seemed prescient.

The lot shows various changes to the words and structure of the song, something that is likely to interest collectors greatly.

Last year a manuscript copy of Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone sold for $2m at Sotheby's.
