Football fans still reeling from England's underwhelming performance in the 2010 World Cup can find solace in memorabilia from the sport's past at Sportingold's UK auction, tomorrow (July 16).
Among the sale's highlights is this scarce official programme from England's match against Ireland on February 14, 1914 at Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough.
Described as being in "generally good" condition with some none-too-serious rusting to the staples, the 24-page programme includes historic photographs, extensive pen pictures, caricatures and team line-ups.

Two pencil changes have been made to the Irish team while, elsewhere in the booklet, line-ups are listed for Amateur Cup games between Stockton v Oxford City and Bishop Auckland v Leytonstone.
And fans of Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Sunderland may be particularly interested in this singular artefact, as the 1914 England squad included players from each of those teams.
The vintage 1914 programme carries a pre-sale estimate of £2,600-3,000.
Elsewhere, supporters of Tottenham Hotspur (such as collector John Crace) won't want to miss out on a bound volume of 50 programmes from the club's 1926-27 season.

The programmes comprise 21 league games, 21 reserve games, a whites versus stripes practice match, and friendly games against the RAF and Cambridge University (both in November 1926) and other matches.
The volume's cover bears the inscription "T.H.F.C. Programmes 1926-27" with gilt inscription on its light-green covers. According to the seller, virtually all of the programmes are four page issues.
With some slight ageing to the edges, this extensive and sought-after memory of Spurs' early-20th century history will auction priced £4,500-5,000.
