Theresa May signed Article 50 offered in Conservative sale

The UK's Conservative Party will auction a mock copy of the Article 50 document signed by Theresa May in its February 8 fundraiser in London.

There’s no estimate available, but it’s likely to sell for several thousand pounds.

Theresa May Brexit

Theresa May will be the signatory of the Article 50 clause

Article 50 is the clause in the Lisbon Treaty that the UK will invoke in order to leave the EU later this year.

The decision was made on the basis of a referendum last year, with 52% of respondents in favour of leaving.

However, Brexit remains highly contentious in the UK and the auction has attracted controversy - particularly given May's support for the remain campaign.

While May’s signature is selling for around £125 ($155) online, this piece of ephemera is of inherently higher value as Brexit will be the main issue facing the UK for the foreseeable future.

May will also go down in the history books as the signatory of Article 50.

Lots offered in past Conservative fundraisers have included tickets to see Adele, grouse hunts and a 10k Iron Man event with former Work and Pensions secretary Ian Duncan Smith.

We have a signed photograph of Conservative prime minister Margaret Thatcher for sale.
