Elvis Presley was always known to have been generous to his fans, gifting them rare pieces of jewellery - sometimes even classic cars.

And it seems that Michael Jackson, who has overtaken Elvis to the #1 spot in Forbes' definitive "Top Earning Dead Celebrities List, was also prone to generosity.

The evidence is in this dressing gown. Jackson handed it to a female fan in the wings following a 1988 performance for his seminal Bad tour in Liverpool, UK.

According to the dressing gown's consigner, a Jackson fan from Dorset in South-west England, the star gifted her the garment after discovering it was her birthday the next day.

The seller now wishes to part with the dressing gown so that another Jackson collector - of which there are many, from London to Macau - can enjoy it.

The rare tour garment - which has 'never been washed' - will go up for auction in Wareham on February 21. It is expected to sell for £4,000 (approximately $6,280).

We'll be watching this sale with interest, here at Paul Fraser Collectibles. The dressing gown isn't the most iconic piece of Jackson memorabilia you could own, but it does date from the pinnacle of the singer's career in the 1980s.

One piece that is iconic, and also dates to Jackson's heyday, is this black and sequined, zip-up jacket. It was worn and owned by the Bad singer in the mid 1980s.
