Another surprise has hit Gotta Have It!'s upcoming Rock & Roll Pop Culture auction following the withdrawal of Beatles legend John Lennon's 1976 application for US residence.
While Lennon's fingerprinted documents were seized by the FBI, another powerful force has intervened and withdrawn more items from the sale block - this time in the form of Lady Gaga's management.
Several rare demo CDs dating from 2002, 2005 and 2006 containing some of Gaga's earliest tunes, back when she was still known as Stefani Germanotta, were set to go under the hammer. They were consigned by the star's former manager.
At least one of the discs contained tunes never before heard by the public. All of the lots were bought by Lady Gaga's present management for an undisclosed sum.
No reason has been confirmed for the withdrawal. Perhaps Gaga's management were worried that the early demos would spoil the star's carefully-crafted image and mystique.
Or perhaps they're planning to hold onto the CDs as appreciating assets, to auction or officially release in the future.
Whether the CDs will ever re-emerge on the collectors markets remains to be seen. For now, fans can still bid on an autographed photo and signed copy of Gaga's The Fame album in Gotta Have It!'s online sale.
