After an encounter with the Cheetah People and his old enemy The Master back in 1989, Doctor Who appeared to have lost his way and departed to some other part of the galaxy. Many doubted he would ever return.
So it was with great delight that he was welcomed back in 2005 with an invigorated new series, played by Christopher Eccleston (later by David Tennant and now Matt Smith) opposite Billie Piper's Rose Tyler.
Now the TARDIS in which he re-materialised has been sold as part of Bonhams' Entertainment Memorabilia auction in London. It sold towards the upper end of its £8,000-12,000 estimate at £10,800.

It is not known whether the buyer used it to get home.
The other major Doctor Who props sold in the auction were from earlier times: two Daleks from earlier series each achieved £4,800 (one from Dr Who And The Daleks, 1964 and The Chase, 1965, the other, battered and gutted, probably from The Evil of the Daleks, 1967.
Their new owners should be aware that the aging examples of the race of evil beings suffer mobility problems, and would probably appreciate having a stair-lift fitted.

Original artwork for the 1964 Dalek Book in watercolour and gouache on paper (framed, mounted and glazed) also sold for £3,600, alongside a copy of the book itself.
Last, but not least, a Cyberman helmet made in 1967 which featured in the Who stories Moonbase and The Tomb Of The Cybermen went for £7,800.
