WWI Lord Kitchener poster up 46% on estimate at Onslows

A rare copy of Alfred Leete's "Lord Kitchener Wants You" sold for £22,000 ($37,666) in a sale of first world war posters at Onslows Auctioneers on July 9.

The lot achieved an increase of 46.6% on a £15,000 ($25,236) estimate.

Lord Kitchener Wants You
Leete's Lord Kitchener Wants You was first issued in 1914

One of only four surviving originals, the poster is one of the most iconic symbols of the conflict.

It proved hugely effective on its release, dramatically increasing enlistment figures, and has been used as a template in other countries - most notably the JM Flagg Uncle Sam version, which was first issued in 1917.

We have some incredible posters available, check them out here.
